Mozart-Denkmal (Bronze) by Ludwig Schwanthaler at Mozartplatz, Salzburg.
Art Austria Salzburg Mozartplatz MozartMirabellgarten is probably best known for the Do-Re-Mi musical number in The Sound of Music. Several scenes from the musical were filmed here and a lot of tourists flock to the gardens (and the palace) to take pictures.

Mirabellgarten is loaded with fountains, statues and flower beds. Everything is so pretty, visitors can’t help but wander around.

It’s best to visit during the morning to avoid the hordes. When my friend and I visited, we chanced upon a marching band performing classical music and tunes from The Sound of Music.

My friend and I were on a backpacking trip around Europe a few years back and we had two days to explore Salzburg. We only knew two things about Salzburg: Mozart and The Sound of Music. We didn’t have a solid itinerary for Salzburg so we planned our tour after buying a Salzburg Card.

The card provides free, single admission to the city’s attractions, reduced rates to some events and excursions, and free use of their public transport system.
Day 1: Arrival at Salzburg Hauptbanhof, check-in at Astoria, get the Salzburg Card.

Old town tour; Mozarts Geburthaus;Toy Museum; Salzach Cruise: very educational and fun tour about Salzburg, Mozart and the Sound of Music, and each passenger was given a Mozart Ball during the trip; Weekend Market along Salzach.
Day 2:

Schloss Mirabell, Mirabellgarten; Schloss Hellbrunn and Trick Fountains; Salzburg Fortress, Fortress Museum and Marionette Museum.
My friend and I were able to save a few euros thanks to the card. When we checked out on the third day, the card was still valid for a few more hours so we used it to ride the bus to the train station.
Word of advice: plan your itinerary, check the attraction fees (if any) and transport fares before getting the card. You might end up paying for more. Do not buy the card from hotels or other establishments. They markup the price. Buy it from the Tourist Information Office at Mozartplatz.
As of this year, the Salzburg 48H Card is priced at €30,00. Check www.salzburg.info for prices.
