Florence Day 1
After the study tour, my friend and I got an extension and backpacked around Europe. Our first stop was Florence, Italy. Our starting point was Paris, France. From Gare de Lyon, we rode the Trenitalia to Milan. An easier route was by Switzerland, but Switzerland was not part of the Schengen Area that time. In Milan, we switched trains to go to Florence. Paris-Charles de Gaulle
Welcome to Paris. We rode the CDGVAL upon arrival, booked our train tickets to Montpellier and waited. And waited. So to pass the time, we walked around and took pictures. Waiting for our TGV to come.

Avignon
This place is known for the Schism. We all know that Rome is the seat of papacy, but there was a time when it was moved to Avignon. The pope (a Frenchman) refused to move to Rome and stayed in Avignon.  A mime artist acting as pope. Notre Dame des Dom, the seat of the Archbishop of Avignon.  From Romanesque to Gothic. The cathedral is Romanesque while the Papal Palace is Gothic.

Sucré Salé
Sucré Salé, a croissanterie in Montpellier. Our professor brought us here for lunch during our first week in France. They offer salads, sandwiches, tartines, pizza, and steak frites. Nothing fancy. Steak frites: a little salad, fries (or chips) and the steak. The ‘steak’ is actually a burger patty.

Tour Eiffel At Night
Tour Eiffel is, without a doubt, the most recognizable landmark in Paris. My friends and I were on a study tour and we took the opportunity to see the iconic landmark up close. Every hour, the tower sparkles for 5 minutes.  We were supposed to go up to the topmost level, but settled for level 2. It was so cold that night that they had to close level 3. Oh well, c’est la vie.
